Inspired by which ever environment I find myself in, inter-species relationships, and the ephemerality of natural materials.
Artist Statement :Â 2021 Senior Show
Clay is universal to everyone. A rich and abundant natural resource filled with both the dead and living. It represents the past and future of the place that it lies in. Interest sparked from a day in studio where a professor stopped to gather clay from a nearby construction site, revealing to us that it’s possible to gather clay from your surrounding environment. I was then drawn to seek a way to find and process my own clay. To respect the history of the material, I tried to allow instinct and meditative listening to control the task of finding, extracting and reforming the clay into its final form. By shining a light on all stages of the process, I hope to emphasize the beauty of earth in its many forms.
